Gaodun ships an AI internship and job-search agent on Tencent's new WorkBuddy platform

Chinese education group Gaodun has released an AI agent covering the full internship and job-search process for university students, debuting as the showcase product for career services at the launch of Tencent's WorkBuddy open platform on September 2.

Tencent opened open.WorkBuddy.cn the same day, onboarding more than 100 ecosystem partners in its first cohort and exposing its underlying agent capabilities to smart hardware makers, vertical application developers and independent developers. Gaodun's Internship and Employment Assistant drew particular attention at the event for its end-to-end coverage of the career journey.

The assistant targets current students, fresh graduates and candidates aiming at public-sector roles, and strings together five stages that are usually served by separate products: career assessment and planning, intelligent job matching, resume optimisation, application submission and interview simulation.

At the planning stage it bundles four assessment instruments - career personality, career anchor, career interest and career ability - and automatically parses the resulting report to place a student on a track such as civil service, public institutions, state-owned enterprises, banking or the internet industry, before outputting an individual development path.

Job matching runs against a position database Gaodun has built up over years of career-services work. Through a dedicated MCP connector, the assistant recommends roles by degree, major, location and personal preference, and lets users filter by historical interview cut-off scores, competition ratios and pay. It can pull official recruitment announcements and major catalogues in one tap, then return the best-matching targets with AI commentary.

For resumes, a diagnostic pass scans for weaknesses against the target job description, then rewrites internship and project sections and returns both a diagnostic report and a revised CV. The application module auto-fills basic information, internship history and certificates. Interview preparation spans large question banks for civil service exams, state-owned enterprise recruitment and corporate campus hiring, with drills by question type and full structured mock interviews that give sentence-level feedback on wording and scoring logic.

All of these capabilities are packaged as Skills inside the WorkBuddy ecosystem, wired through a dedicated MCP connector to Gaodun's proprietary assessment, position, resume and interview data interfaces, so that users reach the whole service through a single AI assistant.

Gaodun, founded in 2006, describes itself as a technology-driven education group focused on vocational education, further study and employment services, with 20 years in the field. Tencent took a strategic stake in the company in 2020, and the two have since worked closely together; the product's appearance at Tencent's annual AI launch event is the latest result of that partnership.

Alongside the platform launch, Tencent started a 2026 back-to-school AI subsidy campaign offering free credits to university students nationwide for high-demand services such as career counselling and academic support, alongside a campus Skills competition and open days at 100 universities. Gaodun's assistant will be distributed to campuses through the campaign, offering free AI career services to students.

Gaodun says it will keep iterating on intelligent job matching, full-simulation interviews and personalised career planning as it deepens the WorkBuddy partnership, with the stated aim of replacing fragmented, low-efficiency job-search services with a standardised, one-stop system.
