Sichuan Launches Free AI Teaching Assistant for All K-12 Teachers
The Sichuan Provincial Department of Education has officially launched "Sichuan AI Teaching Assistant" (四川AI助教), an AI assistant now available free of charge to every primary and secondary school teacher in the province. Teachers can reach it through three provincial channels: the Sichuan Smart Education Platform for Primary and Secondary Schools, the Tianfu Cloud Teaching (天府云教) platform, and the Sichuan Education Big Data Platform.
The assistant is one of the core applications of "Tianfu Cloud Teaching," a provincial program set up by the Sichuan provincial government to carry out the national education digitalisation strategy and push high-quality teaching resources down to weaker schools. Officials describe it as a public-interest, universally accessible smart assistant built around the full range of teachers’ instructional and teaching-research needs.
The service is organised into three modules. AI Teaching Space combines lesson-preparation resources, AI-assisted lesson planning, AI-assisted instruction, intelligent test-paper assembly and an "AI toolkit," helping teachers generate instructional designs, courseware and copy, and assign tiered exercises and quizzes. AI lecturing supports dynamic AI character generation and live dialogue with agents, while test generation covers seven question-assembly modes for synchronous practice, unit tests and targeted revision.
AI Classroom Analysis performs automatic tagging and slicing of classroom video, generates mind maps, extracts knowledge points, produces lesson transcripts and recognises teacher and student behaviour, then compiles an evidence-based teaching-research report. Teachers upload their own lesson recordings, launch an analysis task and review detailed learning-analytics output.
The third module, Agent Plaza, aggregates mainstream scenario-based AI teaching tools across five categories: classroom instruction, class management, home-school communication, professional development and administrative writing. Teachers can generate lesson plans, student comments, speeches and parent-communication scripts in one click.
The funding model is worth noting for anyone tracking public edtech procurement. According to the Sichuan provincial government, AI digital education resources are centrally procured by the province, delivered on a single platform with unified accounts, and are entirely free to use, with no paid membership tier and no paid features.
The launch follows a May 2025 implementation plan for AI education in Sichuan’s primary and secondary schools, which called on municipal education authorities to form city-level teaching alliances under the province’s "network-chain sharing" programme and to promote the assistant. Several local schools had already run dedicated training sessions ahead of the formal rollout.
