OK Smart Education(hereinafter referred to as “the company” or “OK”), a subsidiary of New Oriental(NYSE: EDU), released its first 5G educational hardware named OK 5G Cloud Box(hereinafter referred to as “the new product” or “the box”) last Thursday, aiming to provide integrated transmission services for the development of education informatization.
Founded in 2014, the company is an independent education brand incubated from New Oriental, which focuses on the K-12 sector and provides a full-scenario smart classroom solution for public schools. As of now, OK has partnered with more than 1,000 public schools to serve 370,000 students and nearly 40,000 teachers.
According to the introduction at the press conference, the new product has undergone three generations of upgrade iterations, integrating servers, wireless access points with wired networks. Equipped with 5G technology, the box not only has a function of cache but also guarantees high speed of data transmission, which can bridge various education terminals and cloud platforms more efficiently.
“With the advent of the 5G era, China's education will definitely usher in a new wave of the information revolution.” Said Yu Minhong(Michael Yu), the founder of New Oriental.
Previously, Jia Yunhai, the founder of OK Smart Education, said in an interview with Tencent that OK is a technology company, and in a sense, it is New Oriental’s layout of TO B business. This time, the release of the OK 5G Cloud Box could be considered as New Oriental's ToG exploration.
