The talent training of the college will mainly be carried out at the graduate level

According to the WeChat public account of the Youth League Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University, Peng Gang, vice president of Tsinghua University, announced that the school decided to expand the scale of graduate students of the School of Journalism. In the future, the talent training of the college will be primarily conducted at the graduate level, which was interpreted as the Tsinghua University School of Journalism and Communication will cancel undergraduate enrollment.

Peng Gang further suggested that the college should should motivate teachers to improve their training quality, curriculum design, and the training of students. This move is consistent with Tsinghua University's reform and development requirements and reflects the School’s goal of adjusting the talent training mode.

Professionals: The training of some disciplines and professionals should indeed be reformed

Chu Zhaohui, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Education Sciences,  believes that unlike undergraduate education such as physics and mathematics, journalism students have difficulty understanding their potential at the undergraduate level, and the content of learning is also restricted. Instead, students can learn professional knowledge such as physics and chemistry at the undergraduate level to better report professionally.

With regards to the cancellation of undergraduate enrollment, educational scholar Xiong Bingqi indicated schools need to carry out curriculum reform, explore talent training models, and learn to carry out high-quality graduate-level education from the experienced universities in developed countries.
