Maple Leaf Education System, China's leading private international school operator, announces that it intends to acquire the Canadian International School, one of the largest for-profit international schools in Singapore. The deal is valued at SGD 680 million.
Established in 1990, Canadian International School (CIS) offers IB programs to K-12 students. Now it has 3500 students on the two campuses. CIS's revenue in 2018 and 2019 was SGD 107 million and SGD118 million, respectively.
At present, CIS occupies about 20% market share in Singapore's high-level for-profit international school sector. Upon completion of the deal, Maple Leaf Education's reputation in Singapore will be improved, as well as its revenue of the international business.
Maple Leaf now owns 100 schools in China and overseas, including Canada and Australia. The company further suggests that the acquisition is an important strategy to promote its influence in Southeast Asia.
