As economies recover post-pandemic in China, Meituan-Dianping recently releases a report in terms of education industry recovery during the summer season(hereinafter referred to as the “Report”).

Summer vacation is the critical period for educational institutions to acquire customers, and the growth almost determines the entire trend throughout the year. According to the Report, in the first summer vacation after the outbreak of COVID-19, many sub-sectors of adult education and children education markets have seen rapid growth compared with the same period last year.

For example, the traffic flows of sports training, kindergarten and nursery center, competency-based education, after-school tutoring, and early childhood education sub-sectors have surpassed the results of the same period last year, ranking among the top five in the recovery of the children education industry. 

Amid the epidemic, online after-school tutoring met students’ educational needs to be home quarantined. But after several months, parents are more worried about their children’s physical fitness and their development beyond the school curriculum, spurring the bloom of corresponding industries.

Moreover, compared with the same period last year, the frequency of user searches for adult education products like paid study rooms, driving schools, and educational enhancement has risen sharply.

Among them, paid study rooms are quietly emerging as a new educational product. Its Meituan-Dianping search growth rate ranked first in adult education with a traffic increase by more than ten times over the same period last year. For user age, people from 25 to 35-year-old account for more than half of the total number, and most of them are white-collar workers.

Industry insiders believe that the strong rebound of adult education markets in the post-epidemic stage may be due to the increased pressure on employment. People would like to increase their professional ability and to be more competitive.
