MEL Science, a London-based STEM platform, raised $14 million in a Series B funding round from investors include Mubadala Investment Company, Channel 4 Ventures and other entities from Europe and China.

The company plans to use the funds to develop its product offerings and expand into new markets.

Founded in 2015 by Vassili Philippov, MEL Science is an edtech startup focused to provide science education, including chemistry and physics, to children aged 5 to 14 through educational kits, combining hands-on experiments with interactive VR simulations and live lessons. Its products are intended to be used either at home or by schools.

MEL Science provides subscription-based services. Users subscribe for $34.90 on a monthly basis, get a starter kit and VR headset the first month, and then get new experiments every following month. Through the VR headsets, students can see how the world looks on an atomic level.

Last year, the startup completed a round of $6 million led by TMT Investments, with participation from Sistema Venture Capital and Yandex.
