On December 14th, China’s Ministry of Education unveiled the study abroad statistics last year. The total number of Chinese students studying abroad in 2019 was around 703,500, an increase of 6.25% compared to 662,100 in 2018.
The number of returned overseas students in 2019 totaled 580,300, increasing by 60,900(11.73%) from the previous year.
According to the statistics, nearly 6.56 million Chinese studied overseas from 1978 to the end of 2019. Among them, over 1.65 million are still in the process of studying and conducting research overseas, more than 4.90 million have already finished their studies.
And the number of students who return to China for pursuing a job has exceeded 4.23 million, accounting for 86.28% of those who completed their studies overseas.
