China spends 5.3 trillion on education in 2020, an increase of 5.65% year-on-year

China's total investment in education in 2020 was RMB5.3 trillion(USD815 billion), an increase of 5.65% over the previous year's RMB5.02 trillion, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Education on April 27th. 

Government spending on education totaled RMB4.3 trillion, an increase of 7.10% year-on-year.

Specifically, investment in compulsory education was RMB2.43 trillion, accounting for about 45.83% of the total and representing an increase of 6.55% over the previous year. The investment in higher education including vocational colleges was RMB1.40 trillion, an increase of 3.99% year-on-year.

The investment in high school education including secondary vocational education was RMB842.8 billion, an increase of 9.14% over the previous year. As for the pre-school education, the investment was RMB420.3 billion, and the investment in other education stages was 209 billion yuan.
