India-based edtech startup PurpleTutor raises about USD1.25million in a Series A round

PurpleTutor, a Mumbai-based edtech startup providing AI-driven live classes in the age group of 6 to 18, announced recently that it has closed Series A funding round after raising INR 10 crore (≈USD1.25million) from Disruptors Capital, IvyCap Ventures, Arjun Malhotra (co-founder of HCL) and others.

According to Gaurav Perti, CEO of PurpleTutor, the fund raised will be used for growing technology and product teams,as well as strengthening the AI product amd expanding product lines.

The company has earlier raised INR 300k million in its Seed round in January last year. To date, the company has raised a total of $1.6 million of funding.

Founded in 2019, PurpleTutor offers live, online classes to kids aged 6-18 yrs on computational thinking. The company has its own curriculum and is building technology to arm its teachers to ensure classes are highly personalised and customised.

There are in-house teacher training programmes where teachers are trained to let the students lead the curriculum journey as per their creative ideas, ability, and interest.

The edtech platform claims to have recorded a 4.5X jump in revenue in FY21 compared to last fiscal year and said its overall revenue for FY 21 stood at Rs 10.41 crore.
