Notes
This interactive data visualization gives an overview of the after school institution market in China. Scrolling over each province on the map explores the number of after school institutions for every 10,000 people.
On the map, the light blue indicates there are fewer institutions in the province, and dark blue indicates a higher number. The donut chart displays the market share of the different types of after school institutions. The multiple bar charts help compare the number of institutions, GDP per capita and education funding by province. It quickly becomes clear that the number of after school institutions is geographically unbalanced. Along the east coast and in relatively developed provinces, there tend to be more of these enrichment institutions overall. However, in the east, there is actually a lower proportion of K12 after school institutions, because these cities often have enough money to divert to holistic education, vocational education and higher education which are costlier.
