Speak, an English language learning platform, announced that it has raised $16 million in a Series B-2 funding round led by angel investor Lachy Groom.The co-founders of Dropbox, Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, also participated in the investment.
The new capital infusion will be used to support Speak’s launch in more markets, including in the U.S. by the end of the year.
Founded in 2016, Speak offers a mobile app where learners can have English conversations with phone about real-world scenarios like interviewing for a job or asking for directions. It uses speech recognition to identify English words through thick accents and teach people to speak more clearly.
Speak claimed it is currently live in around 20 countries including Japan, Germany, France, Brazil and Mexico.
