Alibaba's e-commerce platform Taobao announces its entry into the sector of education. Relying on 846 million active users and tools covering live-streaming, marketing, and mini-programs, Taobao aims to build a new online education infrastructure to help more than 1,000 educational institutions acquire over 100,000 new students the next three years.
Taobao Education Division was established in this March, reporting to Jiang Fan, the president of Taobao Tmall. Taobao now hosts over 10,000 education companies such as New Oriental, TAL, and VIPKid, offering 3 million courses to users at all the stages.
In the future, Taobao will empower educational institutions with Ding Talk's infrastructure capabilities, providing them with tools for online courses design, advertising, and customer acquisition. A personalized recommendation system of e-commerce based on big data analysis will also be adopted.
According to Huang Lei, the general manager at Taobao Education Division, "Taobao never lacks educational products. Since the online education sector has exploded at the beginning of this year, Taobao would also take advantage of this trend, speeding up the digitalization of the education industry via our platform."
