India’s Edtech Unicorn Unacademy Acquires Test Prep Platform Coursavy

unacademy333.pngUnacademy on Thursday announced it acquired a Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) test preparation platform Coursavy for an undisclosed amount. Unacademy is going to strengthen its position in the UPSC test prep market.

Founded in 2015, Unacademy is an online learning platform that provides content for major competitive examinations. It claims to have 30 million registered users, 350,000 paid subscribers and over 18,000 registered educators.

Launched in January 2019, Coursavy aims to make high-quality educational content for UPSC, which conducts civil services exams in India, aspirants through technology.

Unacademy recently announced a $150 million fundraising led by SoftBank. With the funding, Unacademy's valuation jumped to $1.45 billion, making it the second edtech unicorn after Byju's in India.

Apart from fundraising, Unacademy has made several acquisitions this year. In April, it acquired online exam preparation platform Kreatryx, then bought online coding platform CodeChef in June, and then the medical preparation platform PrepLadder in July.
