On October 15th, the Party Central Committee and the State Council unveiled two documents, respectively, guiding the development of physical education and aesthetic education at each school level.

The documents set goals that by 2022, physical and aesthetic education-related teachers, infrastructure, and teaching resources should be further developed; sound mechanism and evaluation system should be established; and students' fitness, aesthetics, and humanistic literacy should be significantly improved. For physical education, the Ministry of Education advocates that primary and secondary schools offer one PE class every day. Schools and institutions for higher education incorporate PE class into the public curriculum system.

Meanwhile, the document encourages schools to cooperate with social sports leagues, jointly carrying out physical education curriculum, training plans, and competitions.

Moreover, PE tests should be included in the Graduation Examination of Junior High School and Senior High School. Colleges and universities are required to add PE tests in the admission process.

Besides music, painting, and calligraphy, schools should open classes for dance, opera, Film & Television Arts Courses in the compulsory education stage. Senior high schools should provide more options.

MOE also explores art subjects' inclusion into the Graduation Examination of Junior High School and Senior High School, the high school entrance examination in pilot provinces.

Schools with poor conditions for promoting aesthetic education should be supported. Besides establishing cooperation between urban schools and rural schools, aesthetic in-service training for teachers is also emphasized.
