Chinese internet giant Tencent today unveiled a smart light lamp named AILA smart lamp, which is co-developed by Tencent and DMAI, an early-stage startup committed to developing Artificial Intelligence technologies for education.

Similar to the Dali smart lamp launched by ByteDance last October, the AILA smart lamp has a display, camera, and built-in digital assistant.

It is priced at 1499 yuan(≈$230), aiming at students from 4 to 12-year-old who can use the device to finish their homework.

Via a mobile app in it, the AILA smart lamp provides an AI tutoring service and enables parents to check their kids’ Mathematics and English homework remotely. The onboard digital assistant can also switch lights on or off following the wake-up phrase and catch kids’ posture during the studying process and send the photos to parents.

For privacy concerns, “users can turn off the camera, and hacker attacks could be prevented based on Tencent's security technology,” said Li Xuechao, Vice President of Tencent Education.

Besides the smart light, Tencent Education has partnered with HP to launch “HP Smart Education Laptop” and cooperated with Intel to launch the “MagicPie smart homework system”.

According to Tencent Education, taking the launched smart education hardware as a hub, more education products will be developed by cooperating with software and hardware vendors, channel providers, and content providers.
