China’s Gaokao 2022 kicked off with a new high of test-takers

Credit: JMDeduChina's annual college entrance exam, better known as the Gaokao, kicked off today with a new high of 11.93 million students signing up for the all-important test. Among them at least  54,000 participants will be taking their exams in Beijing.As COVID-19 infections waned, China holds Gaokao 2022 on schedule with tailored anti-coronavirus measures, except for the city of Shanghai which has postponed the national college entrance examination to July due to the COVID-19 epidemic.Additionally, the Beijing version of the exam includes a choice of three short essays , one of which is to write a slogan encouraging social distancing while waiting in line for coronavirus tests.According to Li Yi, a spokesperson for the Beijing Municipal Education Commission: “About 54,000 students in Beijing will take the 2022 national college entrance exam. To ensure the safety of all participants, a list of COVID-19 prevention and control measures has been put in place. Exam rooms are also available for those in closed-off management areas.”
