Indian online education platform Byju's has acquired WhiteHat Jr. for $300 million cash. WhiteHat Jr. will continue to operate as a separate entity for now, according to TechCrunch.
Byju Raveendran said Byju's would make “significant investments” in WhiteHat Jr. and hire more teachers to expand it to new markets as the latter recently announced plans to expand to Canada, U.K., Australia and , New Zealand.
Founded in November 2018, WhiteHat Jr. helps kids aged 6 to 14 years old build commercial-ready games, animations and apps online using the fundamentals of coding. Kids create complex games, animations, and apps using logic, structure, sequence, commands, and algorithmic thinking - in a live 1:1 online classroom.
WhiteHat Jr. has raised about $11 million in total after two funding rounds. Karan Bajaj, the founder of the company, claimed to have more than 5,000 teachers currently on their platform.
Byju's, which is valued more than $10 billion, is also in talks to acquire problem solver Doubtnut for over $100 million.
The buyer plans to go deeper into India, while at the same time expand more overseas markets.
