Shanghai-based edtech startup Jiliguala for online children English learning announced yesterday that it has raised nearly $100 million in a Series C funding round invested by Tencent and Trustbridge Partners. According to the company, the latest capital will be used for product upgrades focusing on formative education.

Founded in 2014, Jiliguala provides online English education services for children up to 12 years old. It helps kids learn English through media such as animation, music, and picture books. Plus, artificial intelligence-driven online interactive classrooms have also been developed. Recently, Jiliguala also partnered with US book publisher Penguin Random House to create an AI-powered tutoring product.

Before this round, Jiliguala closed its pre-series A round from Gene Capital and Yonghua Capital in 2016. Two years later, it raised tens of millions of yuan from Sequoia Capital China and Bertelsmann Asia Investment in a Series B round. To date, Jiliguala has more than 50 million users and over 2 million of them have paid for the systematic curriculum.
